A puppy’s remarkable transformation over just nine months has left social media users stunned after one owner shared dramatic before-and-after photos of her rapidly growing dog.
Hannah Bartholomew (u/talawa19) revealed that her once-tiny 6 lb puppy had ballooned to an astonishing 82 lbs in under a year. Posting two images that captured the dramatic change, Bartholomew showed just how much her dog had grown since she brought him home in March. The post quickly took off, racking up nearly 50,000 views on Threads.
“The 6lb puppy I brought home in March is now 82lbs and still growing. He’s already surpassed the norm for his breed. I think I accidentally got Clifford,” she wrote.
Bartholomew’s reference to Clifford is a playful nod to Clifford the Big Red Dog—a beloved fictional character known for being enormous.

Threads users were quick to jump into the comments with jokes, theories, and their own stories of supersized dogs.

Some commenters speculated that the puppy might be part Great Pyrenees—a giant breed known for its impressive size. Fully grown male Great Pyrenees typically weigh between about 100 and 160 lbs and reach adult height around 27–32 inches at the shoulder. These dogs often reach most of their height by around 12-18 months but continue filling out and gaining muscle until they’re around 2–3 years old.
“Friend, I think you have a Great Pyrenees (or at least a high percentage of pyr). This is my Smokey who is 75 percent pyr and finally stopped growing about 18 months. He is a little over 100lbs. They are amazing dogs though. We have had six over the years,” shared another user.
Other commenters chimed in with stories about golden retrievers, another popular breed. While most adult male golden retrievers typically weigh around 65-75 lbs. with females generally lighter than males, some individual dogs can grow larger than the typical range. Goldens usually complete most of their physical growth by around 12–24 months.
“My golden, Louie, is 100 lbs. he is the largest golden I’ve seen irl,” added Mary.
“My cream golden just turned two yesterday. Cried looking at pictures last night because wdym this is the same dog I brought home last February???” added another user.
One commenter even raised the bar further, writing, “Mecho was never that little! At 11 weeks and at 4 yrs. He’s now 7 and 185 lbs. Your puppy may be a cousin,” proving that when it comes to dogs, you never quite know how big they’ll grow.
