When the Philadelphia Flyers picked star winger Porter Martone with the sixth overall pick in last year’s draft, the team’s fans rejoiced.

A flashy, dynamic scorer with offensive prowess who scored 37 goals and 98 points in his draft year, Martone immediately became one of the top prospects in the NHL.

And it didn’t take him long to make an impression in the pros once he was called up to the Flyers roster. In nine regular-season games, Martone tallied four goals and 10 points. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he’s been equally as impressive.

In two playoff games against the Pittsburgh Penguins — the Flyers’ top rival — Martone has scored two goals, both of which helped him write his name in the record books.

“PORTER MARTONE 🤩🤩🤩 The first teenager in NHL HISTORY to score the game-winning goal in each of his first two career #StanleyCup Playoff games!” the NHL posted on X.

Martone also became just the fourth skater in NHL history to score game-winning goals in each of his first two career playoff games as well.

“They were pressing a bit, so our line knew that we needed to have a good shift,” Martone said of his goal. “So, we worked them down low, and the puck found me backdoor and I just buried it. That’s a big [win] for us.

“… It kind of just ended up on my tape, and I just needed to put it in the net. That’s a great shift by my line, they really worked the corners there, and that was a big goal for us.”

Perhaps what’s most impressive about Martone’s journey is the fact that he was playing for Michigan State just a month ago.

His transition to the NHL has looked seamless, and Martone could be auditioning for a permanent spot on the Flyers in 2026.
