The Kansas City Chiefs are entering a critical offseason, with uncertainty surrounding Travis Kelce’s future and the injury timeline for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. As a result, there’s the potential for major changes across both the roster and coaching staff—something that’s already begun to take shape.

While head coach Andy Reid is set to return, the team has moved on from multiple offensive staffers and appears to have landed on a familiar replacement at offensive coordinator following Matt Nagy’s departure.

The Chiefs are expected to bring back former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to the same role after he previously spent 10 seasons with the organization on Reid’s staff. Bieniemy played a critical role in two of the team’s three Super Bowl titles over the past decade.

On Wednesday, Mahomes reacted to the hire by posting a photo of himself and Bieniemy on his Instagram story, accompanied by three muscle emojis.

Mahomes enjoyed the most productive stretch of his career with Bieniemy as offensive coordinator. He was named to the Pro Bowl in every season he was a starter during that span and, over the course of his career, is already on a historic trajectory, compiling 35,939 passing yards, 267 touchdowns, and a 95–31 record in the regular season.

His postseason success is unmatched among active quarterbacks as well, with three Lombardi Trophies already to his name.

Mahomes was the only Chiefs player to publicly react to the news this week, though Kelce also addressed it on a recent episode of his New Heights podcast, hinting—at least to some—that he may return next season.

“I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man. He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time,” Kelce said. “It’s gonna be awesome to see him back in the building.”
