A pair of rescue dogs have left their owners baffled over the adorable position they like to sleep in together.
Every night, Storm the husky and Yuki the Great Pyrenees like to stretch themselves out on the kitchen across the kitchen floor.
There’s nothing unusual about a dog lying out across a cool tiled floor like this, but what makes Storm and Yuki’s arrangement special is the way they do it while maintaining a close proximity to one another.
As a series of pictures posted to Reddit by their owner shows, Yuki and Storm like to stretch out but make a point of sleeping with their heads almost touching.
It’s an arrangement that has left their owner baffled. He posted a picture of Yuki and Storm’s sleeping arrangements to Reddit, writing: “Two best friends they always sleep like this anyone know why?”
The post, which was shared under the handle u/AdvtgPlaya4lifeDrTG earned over 9,600 upvotes. The owner, who chose not to share his personal details, told Newsweek he and his roommate adopted Yuki and Storm “at the same time.”
It’s a living arrangement that soon saw the dogs become the best of pals. “They love to go to the dog park. Everyday we take them at 6 a.m. for an hour so they can play with other dogs,” he said.
“We cook them dinner every night. Healthy food like chicken and rice. Or fresh fish skin. They are spoiled. They go everywhere with us and are always together and best friends.”
Having a best dog friend can be a major benefit to a canine’s health.
A 2023 study published in the journal Evolution, Medicine, & Public Health found that the social support dogs gain from spending time with other dogs was one of the most significant factors in a canine’s overall health and five times stronger than any financial considerations.
Yuki and Storm will certainly be benefitting from the closeness their human companions have fostered between them. The reasons behind their unique approach to sleeping, however, remain something of a mystery.
Not that many on social media was all that bothered, with the majority of those commenting on the post simply in awe at the adorable bond that has developed between the two pups.
“They love each other,” one user wrote. “Now I’m crying,” another commented.
One user did present a compelling argument for why Yuki and Storm choose to sleep in this unusual way though.
“It’s a simple yet effective alarm system,” they said. “If one of them stands for any reason the other will feel the movement right away. Cats do this as well.”
Another thought it was “because they can touch without compromising their ability to react, which is important.” A third meanwhile, suggested: “they want the physical touch because they have a deep bond and its pack behavior and they get too hot if they are back to back, so they touch their heads.”
Whatever the reality may be, everyone commenting on the post appeared in agreement about one main aspect of it all: it was very cute.
