A man’s unusual way of packing a suitcase has captivated viewers on social media.
The unconventional method was captured in a viral clip on TikTok shared by the man’s fiancee, Jennifer Williamson (@jennay4399). The video has garnered over 2.2 million views since it was shared on December 11.
Williamson told Newsweek that the moment was captured at a Florida resort hotel room where the Gen Z couple were packing their suitcases before leaving for a cruise.
Text overlaid on the clip says: “I’ve never in my life seen someone pack a suitcase like this.”
The video shows the man placing a stack of folded clothes into an open suitcase that is sitting upright, rather than laying flat across the floor. The caption shared with the post simply says: “he’s not familiar with the packing cube game.”
Williamson added: “He never learned to do this somewhere specific, but said that doing it like this helps him fit more inside his suitcase. Many commenters asked if he was in the military, and he was not.”
Her fiancé’s seemingly unwavering belief in his unique system comes as no surprise, as 81 percent of Americans were found to believe they are good at packing, according to a survey of over 1,000 Americans by Cheapflights.
Fifty-eight percent are so confident in their packing abilities that they never consider weighing the bag they plan to check before heading to the airport, while 69 percent consistently remain under the weight/size limitations for checked bags, the survey found.
Seventy percent of respondents prefer to fold their clothes rather than use the rolling method, which many think saves space in their bag. More men (72 percent) were reported to be folders than women (68 percent), meaning 28 percent of men and 32 percent of women surveyed opt to roll their clothes, according to the survey.
The obsession to get the packing just right may be explained by the fact that 57 percent of those surveyed make it their mission to avoid checking their bag.
‘Smart’
TikTok users were intrigued by the man’s packing method, with some describing it as clever.

User @fymlv.v asked: “Why didn’t I think of that ?”
User @socksoff0 posted: “The wild bit is, that’s how you’re meant to pack it…”
User sqbonilla commented: “I do mine this way but with packing cubes.”
ConsolesSuck420 noted: “That’s how you properly pack a duffle in the Military. Is he prior service by chance?” User @letsfeta wondered the same, asking, “is he in the military by any chance?”
User justyce explained: “I pack that way. it helps keep the clothes in place since when rolling it, it’s upright.”
