In a popular Reddit post, a cat owner shared their pet’s hilarious reaction after realizing they had visited another kitty, and internet users can’t cope with it.

The post, shared in December by u/Klutzy_Lettuce_9855, shows the cat hissing at his owner and hitting them with his paws after coming home smelling like another cat.

“Help my cat is furious after I visited another cat,” the caption says. “I’ve been pet sitting a kitten near my house for a long time… Everything always went well when I got home… I stopped for a few months and today they needed me, but when I got home my cat behaved like that with me. I’m super sad…. Why is it?

“Do you think it might have something to do with the kitten having diabetes? It was only discovered recently…”

The video has so far received over 4,700 upvotes and 119 comments.

One user, Left-coastal, commented: “You cheated.”

Susan_Screams said: “Have you apologized? Give him a bowl of catnip, give him your bed, and then go think about what you did.”

Maurality wrote: “My cat does this. Sometimes washing my hands and changing clothes stops it from happening, but not usually. I just feed her and leave her alone for a while. If she comes over to me later on, I let her sniff my hand first before trying to pet her. If I get head bonks, she’s over it. If she’s still hissy, I just keep leaving her be. She’s always back to normal the next day.”

Another user, Unloved_understood8, added: “Cheater, pack your things and get out.”

Pet MD says that cats can indeed experience a form of jealousy, but it differs from human envy. In cats, jealousy often appears as aggression, especially when they feel their security, status, or territory is threatened.

This behavior usually stems from insecurity or a lack of control over their environment. Major household changes, such as the arrival of new people or pets, can make cats feel stressed about losing resources or attention.

Because most cats have a defined home territory, they may react negatively when another animal—or even a visiting human—enters that space. Jealousy toward other cats is especially common, and individual personality plays a large role in how strongly a cat reacts.

Inter-cat aggression can occur between unfamiliar cats or those living together, particularly when they are forced into close proximity. Introducing a new cat should be done carefully, and spaying or neutering may help reduce hormone-driven aggression.
