Golden Retriever Puppy Finally Sees ‘Bluey’—Owner Unprepared for Reaction

A 9-week-old golden retriever puppy named Willow has melted hearts on TikTok after being filmed sitting transfixed by an episode of the children’s cartoon Bluey—an unexpectedly calm moment that her owner says came after seconds of pure chaos.

The viral clip, shared by @willowandthecottage on March 7, has been viewed more than 2 million times, racking up over 477,000 likes and hundreds of amused and affectionate comments from viewers charmed by the puppy’s intense focus on the TV screen.

In the short video, Bluey plays on a television at the end of a hallway while Willow stands perfectly still, ears perked and eyes fixed on the screen, appearing to watch the animated show like a devoted fan. The post was captioned: “Willow is SAT for Bluey,” with on-screen text explaining the experiment behind the moment: “I heard Bluey was created in colors that dogs can see so I put it on the TV and this was my puppy’s reaction.”

Willow’s owner, Jess, who would prefer her full identity be kept private, told Newsweek the puppy had only recently moved into her new home and was still settling in.

“Willow is a 9-week-old golden retriever puppy,” she said. “She’s incredibly cuddly but also very rambunctious and playful, and she’s settling in really well.

“She’s already got a huge personality and is equal parts cuddly and chaotic!”

The moment stood out precisely because it was so unlike Willow’s usual behavior. Jess said the puppy often seems curious about whatever is playing on the television, and after hearing that Bluey may use colors dogs can see, she decided to test the theory.

“I’m not sure how true that actually is, but I thought I’d put it on and see how she reacted,” she said. “As soon as it started, she instantly sat down and started watching it.

“It was so cute that I had to grab my phone and film it.”

At the time, Jess was on a video call with a friend, who found the timing particularly funny.

“She couldn’t stop laughing, because about 10 seconds earlier Willow had been zooming around the room causing chaos,” Jess said. “Safe to say she seems to be a fan of Bluey now, and we’ve put it on a few times since.”

The clip taps into a familiar internet trope. Many dog owners swear their pets enjoy watching Bluey, and similar videos of dogs seemingly engrossed by the Australian cartoon regularly circulate online. That shared joke helped propel Willow’s video into TikTok feeds far beyond Jess’s usual audience.

Despite working in social media and content creation, Jess said she didn’t expect the post to blow up.

“We definitely didn’t expect the video to go viral,” she said. “I originally started the account as a place to document all the photos and videos I take of Willow on a daily—hourly—basis.

“It’s been really fun to combine that with sharing little moments of Willow as she grows up.”

As the comments rolled in, viewers responded with warmth and humor. The attention has also brought some surprises.

“We’ve even had some brand and celebrity interactions pop up in the comments which has been really fun to see as well,” she said.

For Jess, though, the video’s success is secondary to what it represents.

“Golden retrievers grow so quickly, so it’s really nice being able to capture these moments while she’s still such a tiny puppy and have those memories to look back on later,” she said.
