Jalen Hurts’ Four-Word Response Captures Eagles’ Super Bowl Mindset

Some things have to be taught, but other things are simply just in you.

That’s the thought process Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts expressed in a press conference on Wednesday as they prepare for the San Francisco 49ers.

It doesn’t matter that the Eagles went 11-6, because when playoff time comes, the entire team has a different mentality. The Eagles have the chance to defend their Super Bowl title, and the team is taking it seriously.

Since coming to Philadelphia in 2021, head coach Nick Sirianni and Hurts (selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft) made the playoffs every single year.

As they prepare for a crucial 2022 NFC Championship rematch, the Eagles are confident in their abilities this postseason and set the tone for it.

“Some things are in you,” Hurts said. “If you don’t have that mentality [then] you are not in the right place.”

Hurts wasn’t animated and didn’t elaborate – he didn’t need to.

He spoke for a team that is motivated to win on all sides of the ball, despite having some issues this season. Philadelphia took a methodical approach to this season, brushing off losses as learning lessons and using Week 18 as a strategic “bye” for some of the starters.

With all of the poise on this team, the tensions are still there. Lane Johnson seems to be returning from injury. The 49ers are relatively banged up coming to Philadelphia, so Hurts’ quiet authority, paired with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s unstoppable defense, can capitalize on Sunday if they lock in.

The 49ers and Eagles kick off Sunday, Jan. 11, at 4:30 p.m.
