A short TikTok video showing a dachshund’s dramatic change in attitude before and after a walk has left viewers on TikTok in hysterics, quickly racking up more than 191,000 views and over 25,000 likes since it was first posted.
Shared on March 11 under @dextersdrama, the lighthearted clip captures what many viewers have said is an uncannily accurate portrait of life with a sausage dog: reluctant, resistant—and then suddenly unstoppable.
The video opens at the front door, where a black-and-tan dachshund stands hesitantly in a quilted coat, body stiff and expression distinctly unimpressed. His tail hangs low as he appears anything but excited about heading outside.
Moments later, the scene shifts to the walk itself, where the dog plants himself firmly on the ground, refusing to move. In one shot, his owner is seen picking him up and carrying him along, underscoring just how little interest he has in proceeding on foot. The turning point comes at the end. The clip cuts to the dachshund off leash, racing forward with purpose and energy.
Overlaid text at this point of the video reads: “On his way home,” while the caption adds: “…To be fair the fire was on.”
That striking contrast has fueled a wave of amused and heartfelt reactions in the comments, many from fellow dachshund owners who immediately recognized the behavior.
“As a sausage owner myself mine loves a walk at a set time only. He thrives on routine. So for us—after lunch only. Find your sausie’s walking sweetspot,” one viewer suggested in the comment section.
Another added: “Mine loves her walks but in the rain? No way.”
Several commenters shared similar stories of resistance tied to environment or habit.
“Mine’s like this [at the moment]. She’s used to the city life but now we’re in a more rural spot and she’s not a fan,” one person said.
Another added: “Mine is obsessed with walks, he yearns for them so much but it’s an influence caused by my other dogs.”
Others responded with simpler disbelief.
“Why are they like this,” one comment read, echoed by another viewer who wrote: “This is insanely accurate.”
One person noted: “Mine hates a walk, have to carry her,” while another chimed in: “This is my chihuahua.”
“This is mine shaking before getting his coat on but once out the door he fine, he loves it,” another added.
Another wrote, “mine is exactly like this,” while a separate comment focused on a small but telling detail: “Those little tippy taps.”
For some, the humor lay in the fleeting nature of cooperation.
“Same. Sausage only walks on way home,” one viewer said.
Another shared: “My sausage walked with no tantrums the other day, had to get a [picture] to remember.”
