A senior dog’s early-morning accident has captured hearts online after her owner shared the sweet, relatable moment on social media.

In March, a Threads user posting under the handle @jeffsellshousesnc uploaded a photo of his smiling senior dog, explaining that she had woken him up around 5 a.m.—not to ask to go outside, but to alert him that she had already had a small accident.

The post struck a chord instantly, with many viewers relating to the gentle, awkward realities of caring for an aging pet. Adding to the charm, the owner introduced the canine by her full “government name,” Lady Izabella Pouf de Chomp, which quickly became a fan favorite detail.

The man behind the post, Jeffrey Kelleher, later shared more about the moment with Newsweek. Kelleher, 38. from North Carolina, said the dog—known affectionately as Pouf de, Bones, Bone Chomps, or Mrs. Chomps—has been part of his family since she was a puppy.

Lady Izabella is a purebred Schipperke who was adopted at just 4 months old. Now 16.5, she is approaching her 17th birthday in October. Despite her age, Kelleher described her as incredibly smart, affectionate, and full of personality, even admitting she can sometimes be a little sassy and judgmental.

For most of her life, Lady Izabella was crate-trained, but, a few years ago, Kelleher and his husband decided to give her more freedom. She had always been trustworthy and well-behaved, even when left alone outside of her crate during the night or while they were away.

That trust was tested—gently—in the early hours of one morning. Sometime between 4:45 a.m. and 5 a.m., Kelleher was stirred awake by movement. Lady Izabella made her way to his side of the bed and tried with all her strength to wake him, standing on her hind legs and attempting to climb onto the bed.

Once he was awake, Lady Izabella excitedly bounced around, wagging and “chomping” the way she often does, clearly eager for attention. That was when Kelleher noticed she had already had a small accident inside the house.

Despite that, Lady Izabella was still enthusiastic and ready to go outside. Kelleher carried her downstairs, took her out, and, after a brief bathroom break, the two returned indoors and spent about an hour curled up together on the couch.

Kelleher joked that his dog insisted she was innocent and jokingly blamed the incident on her brother—who, he noted, sleeps in a crate at night.

The heartfelt story quickly resonated far beyond their home. The post has since racked up more than 767,000 views and over 27,900 likes on Threads, with many commenters praising the patience, humor, and love shown toward a senior pet.

One user, Gumbysbff, commented: “I’m an elderly person and I sometimes have accidents, too. I’m not nearly as cute as your little dumpling, though. Give her a kiss from her fellow oldie!”

Svanpay552 said: “Maybe try putting a pee pad in the area she had her accident. Mine started using it in the middle of the night if she needed too and it was very helpful. Give that baby a kiss from me!”

Terryannmcg added: “I learned when my 105 lbs boy was a senior that sometimes you just have to let it flow. I’d give anything to have him here and have to clean up his pee.”
