A video has gone viral showing the moment a nurse tried to sneak into the house after a night shift, only for her senior husky who ran “a tight ship” to take matters into his own paws.

Most people love returning home and being greeted by their pets, and while that was certainly true for Frances Yandell, it wasn’t quite so enjoyable in the early hours of the morning. Yandell of Hudson Oaks, Texas, captured a hilarious video showing how she tried to quietly sneak into the house at 2 a.m. following a night shift. She did her best not to wake anyone, but her 11-year-old husky named Loki had other ideas.

Yandell told Newsweek that, regardless of whether it was day or night, Loki did a fantastic job at “keeping us all in line.” Needless to say, he lived up to the judgmental husky stereotype.

“I came inside and was planning to relax a little before heading to bed, Loki had other ideas and wanted to wake everyone up and alert the family that I was home,” Yandell said.

Fortunately, Loki didn’t manage to wake up Yandell’s fiance, Ryan McMullen, or their son when he started howling (although he did his best).

Yandell shared the video of Loki’s vocal antics on TikTok (@ooopsiedaisi) and the internet is obsessed. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 1.2 million views and 366,300 likes at the time of writing.

The caption layered over the clip reads: “POV: night shift trying to sneak in quietly but the husky runs a tight ship.”

Sadly, Loki passed away unexpectedly on February 24, just three days after this video was filmed. Yandell returned home to find the husky “acting very odd” and his heart was beating incredibly fast. She and McMullen rushed him to the emergency vet where he was marked as critical.

Vets couldn’t give a definitive diagnosis, although they suspected it may have been cancer or meningitis. It’s been a devastating loss for the family, especially as Loki’s passing was so sudden.

Yandell said: “We stayed with him to the very end. His dad held his paw, and I gave him head scratches and massaged his ears while he passed. He truly was such an important and special part of our family, and the house is quiet and sad without him here.

“Loki was sassy and very particular. He only did things he wanted to, and nothing else. He loved scratchies, his stuffy toys and laying in the yard. He would stomp and sort of wind up his howl, and it was always so funny to us,” she continued.

It’s been a difficult week for the family, but the online reaction to Loki’s viral video has been such a source of joy and support. Yandell had no idea the clip would go viral, but she’s delighted that people around the world got to experience Loki’s strict standards.

For Yandell, this clip was just a routine moment with her vocal husky. Anytime she finished a night shift, she knew he’d be more than happy to express his thoughts, despite the rest of the house being asleep.

Returning home from a night shift will never be the same for Yandell, but the TikTok video will serve as a beautiful reminder.

“The reaction to our boy has been so surprising and frankly, bittersweet since his passing,” Yandell told Newsweek. “We have loved seeing him celebrated and so loved by others. Loki was always one for dramatics, so it doesn’t surprise us that he would go viral and then leave us. It has been fun to see him go out with a bang, for sure.”

Since the video went viral, many TikTok users took to the comments to laud Loki’s security routine, leading to more than 300 on the post so far.

One comment reads: “He fought the demons as long as he possibly could. Gotta give credit where it’s due.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “To be fair that’s the most effort I’ve ever seen from a husky to be quiet.”

While another person joked: “At least he tried to fight it.”
