Fortunately, the dog owner noted in a TikTok comment that her pup is doing well, aside from the broken leg.
How Are Broken Bones Treated in Dogs?
As with humans, breaking a bone is a painful and traumatic experience for dogs, as the website PetMD calls it one of the most-challenging medical conditions to deal with. Whether it is a complete break, incomplete, open, closed or articular fracture, side effects can include pain, joint swelling, lameness, swelling or bruising.
Treatment will depend on the patient’s age and health, the severity of the injury, and the environment they live in. Casts and splints are an option for younger dogs (or those with stable fractures), while fixing the joint with pins, rods and wires is the most common option.
Broken bones usually heal within three to four months for adult dogs, or one to two months among puppies. Activity should be restricted during recovery, meaning no jumping, running or playing. Veterinarians will advise whether physical therapy or rehabilitation is necessary to strengthen the muscles, tendons and improve function.
What Did TikTok Users Say?
The dog already appeared to have multiple messages written on her cast, including “get well soon,” “love you,” and plenty of heart doodles. Indeed, the owner wrote in the caption that they are “praying for her speedy recovery” so the dachshund can be back on her paws in no time.
The post has already amassed more than 370 comments since it was shared. Hundreds of viewers were quick to share their reactions to the video or similar experiences with their own pets.
Among the responses, one comment reads: “Praying for the speediest recovery possible.”
Another TikTok user replied: “Aw bless her little heart. I hope she feels better soon.”
A third person said: “Oh she needs round the clock snacks.”
One commenter joked: “There will be an intense Fritos smell when it comes off.”
