A senior Chihuahua who spent eight months in the shelter can’t hide his joy and gratitude after being finally being adopted.

Conor the 9-year-old Chihuahua arrived at the shelter alongside his brother, who was adopted almost immediately. Sadly, it was a longer wait for Conor, but his forever family found him eventually when he caught the eye of Ron Sutton, a man in his 60s who recently lost his 17-year-old Chihuahua named Toby.

After seeing how joyful Conor (nicknamed Mr. Conor) looked, Ron couldn’t resist adopting the sweet pup in 2025. Ron’s daughter, Natalie Sutton, 30, of Galveston, Texas, told Newsweek that Conor and her dad “share a strong bond,” even if they do make quite the unlikely duo. At 6’4”, Ron may tower over his tiny rescue dog, but their love is unquestionable.

“Mr. Conor wasn’t what my dad went looking for at the shelter, but he was just such a happy little guy my dad couldn’t leave him there,” Natalie said. “I personally can see how much joy having this dog has brought my dad, and it makes me very happy to see how happy Mr. Conor is too.”

While Mr. Conor may have been apprehensive about his new environment at first, he soon settled in. He’d been fostered briefly while at the shelter but taken back shortly after, so it took him time to realize that Ron is his forever family.

“After about a month, he settled. Now, he sleeps a lot and loves car rides. He’s a really easy going dog, is well-trained and friendly with everyone,” Natalie said.

Following his adoption, Natalie shared an adorable TikTok video (@natsutton) of Mr. Conor following Ron around the house. During the clip, the dog could be seen smiling, cuddling his owners, and of course offering plenty of kisses.

The caption layered over the clip explains that the senior Chihuahua is “just so happy to be here,” and it certainly shows.

Since the video was posted on TikTok in December, it’s melted plenty of hearts. At the time of writing, it’s gone viral with over 307,200 views and 99,800 likes so far.

From cuddling up to Ron and Natalie, meeting new dogs at the park or protecting his home from the mailman, Mr. Conor is living his best life. He may be in his twilight years, but this senior pup is thriving and has discovered a whole new lease of life.

The online response to Mr. Conor’s adoption story has been overwhelmingly positive, as hundreds of social media users took to the comments to share their reactions. This has led to more than 400 comments on the viral TikTok post already, and needless to say, Mr. Conor has gained a whole new fan club.

One comment reads: “Senior pets have no time to lose. They love immediately and fully!”

Another TikTok user wrote: “There’s absolutely something about a rescue’s love and appreciation.”

Another person replied: “Those leaps of pure happiness are hysterical… got almost 2” of air on those.”

While one commenter said: “His pure joy to have his forever family.”
