A dog’s way of multitasking between eating his lunch and guarding the house has left viewers on TikTok in stitches.

The male wirehaired dachshund was filming standing by his food bowls, taking even breaks between munching on kibble to diligently bark at the front door. The moment that has proved relatable to many dog owners in the comments was shared to the platform on July 23 by the dog’s owner @marco.wallenburg, and has been viewed more than 168,000 times to date. The candid clip has led to plenty of amused reactions from viewers.

TikTok users were able to see the canine deliberate between focusing on lunchtime or keeping an eye on the front door: both top priorities for any family pet. The dachshund ended up hilariously opting to balance both eating and barking in a somewhat even rhythm.

An overlaid text on the video read: “When you’re on your lunch break but also head of security,” while the post was captioned: “Food = priority. Barking = also priority.”

The vocal dachshund and his owner live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Since the post was shared to the platform, TikTok users have flooded the comments section to poke fun at the moment. Several have shared their own similar experiences with dachshunds determined to guard both their food and their home at the same time.

“Dachshund barking with food or ball in their mouth is my favorite sound,” one viewer said.

“My dog is doing the same,” another added.

“Always protecting us,” the dachshund’s owner replied.

“It’s a tough job but someone has to do it,” another commented.

“You could say he has a lot on his plate,” another viewer joked.

“Above and beyond, deserves a pay rise,” another added, while another shared in agreement: “You deserve a pay rise for multi-tasking.”

“Our [Doxie] gives herself a reward from her food bowl after barking,” another said.

“Paw patrol for life,” another added.

Dachshunds, known for their long bodies and short legs, are fiercely loyal dogs that often see themselves as protectors of their domain.

Originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers, their courageous and determined nature has made them vigilant watchdogs for families. Despite their small stature, dachshunds are quick to alert their owners to unfamiliar sounds or visitors, often barking persistently to signal potential intruders. Their devotion to their families can make them especially territorial and always ready to protect the people they love.
