Internet Can’t Cope With Face of ‘Wobbly’ Shelter Dog Who Won’t Give Up

A small blue heeler puppy named Marathon has found a home after a medical diagnosis revealed he would always move through the world a little differently.

When the puppy arrived at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!), staff noticed he had an unusually small skull and difficulty maintaining balance, causing him to wobble, stumble and sometimes tip over as he walked.

Further testing confirmed their suspicions. A $2,800 MRI—funded by community donors through a medical “chip‑in” fundraiser—revealed Marathon has cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that affects balance and coordination.

Despite the diagnosis, Marathon quickly proved he was more than his medical challenges. The 4‑month‑old pup is bright, playful and sociable, showing affection toward people and other dogs alike. He is happiest curled up in a lap after playtime, and while his condition affects how he moves, shelter staff say it hasn’t dampened his spirit.

The medical team at APA! used the MRI results to begin developing a care plan tailored to Marathon’s needs, continuing to monitor his neurological development while ensuring his comfort and safety. Pets with neurological differences often require specialized diagnostics and ongoing care—support the nonprofit says is central to its lifesaving, no kill mission.

Shelter staff say they quickly fell in love with the puppy, making sure he felt secure while learning how to navigate the world at his own pace.

“Marathon’s cerebellar hypoplasia and neurological differences mean he’ll continue to navigate the world in his own unique way, a little wobbly, always with full love and determination. Austin Pets Alive! is focused on supporting his comfort, safety, and overall quality of life as he grows,” APA said.

That focus paid off. Since his diagnosis and rise to internet fame, Marathon has been adopted by a family ready to support him as he grows.

Social media users celebrated both Marathon’s resilience and his happy ending. “This guy is the epitome of ‘it might take me a while but imma get there,’” shared Nick. “Watch his wobbly walk once and you’ll fall in love.”

Others echoed the sentiment. “THAT FACE! Wow,” wrote Lilly, while Syd added, “SO CUTE!!!!!!” Another user summed up the reaction simply: “I am in LOVE with this guy—he’s so sweet.”
