Internet users have been left in hysterics after a woman came downstairs to find a cat waiting under her Christmas tree – only to realize that it wasn’t actually hers.

Cat owner Keira shared the video on TikTok (@lowkei.ra) showing the unexpected moment she discovered an “imposter cat” laying beneath the Christmas tree in her home. The caption explains that Keira had heard her own cat, named Eddie, meowing so she rushed downstairs to see what the problem was.

To her surprise, 4-year-old Eddie was sitting outside the cat flap, staring at an intruder in his home. Indeed, Keira told Newsweek that she was “really confused” as to why there was “a random cat” in her house, and she still isn’t sure how or why it happened.

“My living room door was shut so I thought it was my cat Eddie trying to come out of the room,” Keira, of London, England, said. “I’m still confused as why it chose to welcome itself in and just chill under the Christmas tree, and why my other cat was the one outside staring through the cat flap.”

The perplexed owner couldn’t resist capturing a video of that chaotic moment and shared it on TikTok. In just a matter of days, the hilarious video has gone viral with over 1.3 million views and more than 309,500 likes at the time of writing.

It’s still unclear who the imposter cat belongs to or what his name is, but Keira certainly thought he was “a cutie.” The cat appeared to be healthy and well-taken care of.

After being discovered in his not-so-secret hiding spot under the tree, the cat didn’t rush off either. Keira told Newsweek that he stayed for “the next 30 minutes,” making himself comfortable. Thankfully, Eddie didn’t get too offended by that, and he was perfectly fine afterwards.

Internet users can’t get enough of the moment Kiera and Eddie discovered they had an unexpected guest, leading to more than 1,300 comments on the viral video so far. Many commenters lauded the intruder for being so brazen, while others were obsessed with Eddie’s seemingly horrified reaction.

One comment on the post reads: “The imposter is looking a little too comfortable.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “You could say it’s a… copycat.”

Another person replied: “Imposter cat looks so upset that he had to come show him up.”

“I love how cats randomly duplicate,” joked one person.

While one commenter added: “Eddie is NOT happy with this.”
