Bryson DeChambeau Falls as a Favorite on Eve of the Masters

It’s time for the most important golf tournament of the year, the Masters, and Augusta is abuzz as fans wonder what fairytale will be written this time around.

Last year, it was the story of perseverance and triumph for one of golf’s favorite sons, Rory McIlroy, as he fended off ghosts and Sunday demons to win the Green Jacket.

This year, McIlroy is back, along with dozens of other hopefuls wanting to make their lifelong dream come true of joining the pantheon of winners clad in green.

The player that McIlroy overcame last year to win it all was the big-hitting, science-brained innovator Bryson DeChambeau, who looked to be the main foil to the veteran before falling apart on Sunday.

This year, DeChambeau wants to rewrite his wrongs and change his own narrative of falling short when it matters the most.

Per Kalshi, the prediction website, DeChambeau was the second-favorite heading into the Masters for most of the ramp-up to the event, only trailing behind world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is going for his third Green Jacket this tournament.

But as the days have gone on, DeChambeau has slipped down the prediction leaderboard, with Spain’s Jon Rahm now firmly in second place.

Scheffler leads all eligible golfers with outrageous 14% odds to win at Augusta, per Kalshi.

Rahm sits in second with 7.9%.

And DeChambeau, still falling, is at 6.9%, with his odds possibly falling below McIlroy and Xander Schauffele before the tournament starts on Thursday.

The change in odds could be due to DeChambeau announcing that he will be using a brand-new, never-before-seen 5-iron club that he created using a 3D printer.

Although officials haven’t approved the mad golf scientist’s creation yet, DeChambeau expects to use it once it’s given the green light.
