A golden retriever’s priceless reaction to his owner’s trickery has left millions of viewers on TikTok in stitches, after a candid video of the moment went viral on the platform

The short clip, shared by the pet’s owner under @yourdressbff on October 25, shows the male golden retriever sitting obediently on the floor as his owner hovered his hand just above the dog’s head and body—mimicking the motion of petting, but never actually making contact. The canine, clearly confused, stared up, visibly bewildered and waiting patiently for the affection to finally land.

“My husband pretending to pet our golden,” an overlaid text on the video read, which played alongside a comedic audio. The post was captioned: “He was concerned.”

Since it was posted, the video has been viewed more than 3.4 million times and liked by over 358,000 users. Thousands of commenters responded with laughter, surprise, and sympathy for the dog’s baffled expression. Several shared how their own pets would have reacted if they were similarly pranked.

“Golden retrievers are so funny,” one viewer said, while another added: “It’s called reiki for golden retrievers.”

“Some kind of ASMR for pets,” a third viewer shared.

“Connected the Bluetooth device is not ready to pair,” one viewer commented.

“I want a golden retriever; may I pet yours,” another posted.

“Your golden retriever concerned about your husband’s mental well-being,” a third wrote.

“Both of mine are 12 [and] they won’t wait that long. I get the golden retriever nose hammer after a couple seconds,” a fourth shared.

“Golden retrievers are such patient dogs,” one commenter said. “Got patience for teasing. My dog would have bit you by now.”

“The golden retriever thinking I don’t know if I should move or stay still,” another added.

“That poor dog is so confused,” a third wrote. “He doesn’t know which one of them has the problem!”

“We don’t deserve dogs … Especially Labradors, golden retrievers,” another commented. “We have them with us for such a short time, and they remain in our thought forever. Every day is precious.”

Golden retrievers are known for their easygoing and affectionate demeanor, making them a popular choice for families and dog lovers worldwide. Their desire for human interaction often means they thrive on physical affection—something the pup in the video was clearly craving.
