Sometimes, you won’t always get what you wish for. In this case, it’s a future of PlayStation games being ported to PC for non-console owners to be able to enjoy. This change in strategy now means that some of the biggest games are no longer slated for a PC release. It’s back to exclusivity.
Players will have to purchase a PlayStation console to enjoy upcoming titles like “Marvel’s Wolverine” by Insomniac Studios and “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” by Naughty Dog. Fortunately, this change won’t affect the games that have already revealed a PC port in the works, like Kojima Productions’ “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.”
The information was revealed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who cited anonymous sources and explained that the reason for the change was that the ports weren’t selling well. Sony has been porting their biggest titles to PC since 2020 and has made titles like “God of War” and “The Last of Us” available for a new player base to enjoy. However, starting with “Ghost of Yotei,” those players won’t have the opportunity to do that anymore.
It’s still possible that Sony will go back on the decision, but it’s worth noting that there is also a massive crisis within the PC industry, making some chips practically impossible to procure. As a result, Sony is also reportedly delaying the release of the PS6 until 2028 or even 2029, which can also be a factor in the decision to stop porting to PC.
Sony was recently in the news for shutting down BluePoint games, the developers behind the remake of “Demon’s Souls,” laying off the entire team in the process.
