A cat owner fostered her sister’s Newfoundland for several months—then her kitten decided he was her favorite dog in the world, and pictures of them together have melted hearts among internet users.

In a post shared on Reddit on Tuesday under the username u/ireallymissbuffy, the black kitty can be seen loafing at the top of the stairs, snuggling up to the big fluffy dog, making it clear that she’s chosen him as her favorite companion.

“My sister’s dog stole [my] cat,” the caption says, as the poster explains: “I have been fostering my sister’s dog, Kappa for the past several months. As most full Newfoundlands, he’s a love, a Joy, just and all around Goodest Boy Ever.

“I have a cat I adore named Trouble. She is very, very sweet, affectionate and just a baby in all regards. She used to be one of my most constant companions, UNTIL HE CAME!!”

The poster also has a dog of her owner, another Newfoundland named Blue, who is the biological son of Kappa, but is nothing like him.

“I was standing at my bedroom which is above the landing pictured here, and I could hear tiny little cat cries. Looked over the edge and could see that Trouble was downstairs, rubbing up against Kappa, making her little cat sounds,” they said.

“He finally flopped down (he’s a Newf, they don’t lie down they FLOP) and she was like ‘FINALLY!!”

The kitty immediately curled up next to him and started purring so loud that she could hear it from upstairs.

“I’ve noticed a pattern where they are always together… She is REALLY good at making sad cat sounds. I’m talking, ‘saddest kid in the second grade,’ level of cries. So now she’s Trouble the Traitor!”

Cats and dogs have a reputation for being each others’ worst enemies, but really this myth couldn’t be any further from the truth.

A study carried out by Italian scientists in 2020, published in the journal PLOS ONE, found that the two can easily cohabitate without much conflict, and not only that, they can become best of friends too.

Findings from the study showed that over 64 percent of the cats and dogs living together also played together, 58 percent chased each other and 41 percent fought. Almost two-thirds of the pets sometimes playfully “ambushed” each other.

The post quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 5,500 upvotes and 79 comments on the platform.

One user, HitPointGamer, commented: “My brother is human, not a Newfy, but my cats have always done this whenever he comes to visit. I would swear that he bathes in catnip!”

SubstantialDog9170 said: “You got your a cat a dog.”

Just_Ear_2953 added: “A friendly dog is the best cat bed.”
