A boxer asking to go out drew the attention of her owner, but when it became clear what she actually wanted, viewers of a viral video of the incident on social media were highly amused.

In a video from the TikTok account poppytheboxer1, the dog could be seen snuffling at the bottom of the door to go outside, clearly indicating to her owner that she needed to go to the bathroom.

Other Plans

But Poppy had other plans. When her owner stood up to open the door, she made her move—walking around her to her chair, already warmed up by the owner’s presence.

Poppy hopped up on the chair and stared at her owner as she turned in exasperation.

“POV, the dog pretends to need a wee so she can steal my mum’s warm spot on the sofa,” the original poster (OP) wrote in the overlaid text on the video, adding in the caption, “Just another day of being a boxer owner.”

The video drew more than 20.4 million views on the platform in just over a week.

‘While you’re up’

TikTok viewers were impressed and highly amused by Poppy’s ingenuity amid almost 12,000 comments.

“If ‘on your feet, lose your seat’ was a video,” one commenter quipped.

“‘Oops, gotta be quicker than that, Barbara,'” another person joked.

“While you’re up, get me a treat,” a fellow user shared.

Finally, one individual said Poppy is an inspiration: “My boxer did exactly the same to my husband last week when I was showing him a video of princess poppy the boxer doing the exact same thing. They’re so funny.”

An Intelligent Breed

Boxers may look like silly dogs, but they are widely regarded as one of the most intelligent and trainable dog breeds.

Known for their energetic demeanor and strong protective instincts, they also exhibit a keen ability to learn commands and respond well to consistent, positive reinforcement training.

Their intelligence is often demonstrated in their problem-solving skills and adaptability, making them not just playful companions, but also effective working dogs in roles like search-and-rescue, therapy and service assistance.

Beyond their trainability, boxers possess a strong emotional intelligence that enables them to connect deeply with their human families. They are especially sensitive to tone of voice and body language, which enhances their responsiveness and loyalty.

While their exuberant energy requires regular physical activity, it also fuels their enthusiasm for interactive games and tasks that challenge their minds—traits that affirm their reputation as both smart and deeply affectionate dogs.
