Kitten Found in McDonald’s Parking Lot, Then She Chooses Her Human

In a viral Reddit post, a cat owner revealed how their kitten chose them after being found in a parking lot near their workplace, and internet users can’t stop crying.

Shared in February under the username u/trying_my_besttt, the post tells the story of Blue, a tiny kitten who decided to pick her owner outside a McDonald’s. Pictures shared with the post show the gray kitten enjoying her new spoiled life, playing with toys of all sorts.

“I have always been a dog person (although I like/respect cats) and I never planned on getting a cat,” the poster wrote.

They explained that for the past couple of years, they’ve told everyone they know that they had no immediate plans to get a pet, not only because they were still mourning the passing of their “soul dog” but also because of their living arrangements.

“I live in a small apartment and work long days, which would be incompatible with caring for a large dog,” they said.

But things changed when the cat distribution system chose them on a random work day.

“Well… I work at a vet clinic and somebody came in two weeks ago and told us there was a kitten all alone in the parking lot of the McDonald’s next door. I went to catch her. She didn’t even try to run and clung to me when I snatched her,” they said.

“All day, while we kept her in a kennel at the clinic, she would rub up against the bars of her kennel when I was there and would cry when I left the room.”

The kitten, which only weighed 4.4 pounds at the time, had no microchip and nobody tried to claim her, so the poster decided to keep her.

“Meet Blue! My first pet since my soul dog passed in 2023. She is perfect in every way and I never planned on having her,” they said.

If you find a cat that seems lost, stray or feral, avoid feeding them unless they appear very underweight because doing so might encourage them to stay in the area even if they have an owner.

The first thing you should do is trying to reunite the pet with their owner by posting on local social media or putting up posters, and if you suspect neglect or cruelty, contact the ASPCA.

If the cat is approachable, take them to a vet to be scanned for a microchip, which is the most reliable way to identify an owner; local vets and welfare groups can usually scan free of charge. If no owner is found, you can apply to adopt the kitty yourself.

The post quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 40,000 upvotes and 584 comments on the platform.

One user, Cozyhobby, commented: “Gorgeous girl, sounds like it was meant to be.”

Vern1138 said: “Congratulations, a cat chose you! Blue looks like a very content kitty, and I’m glad she chose you. You seem like you’re a caring person. So that’s why she probably decided you were ready.

“You can’t tell the CDS what to do. I already had an adopted cat, and an adopted dog, but one night when I was out walking it decided I needed a new Void in my life. Didn’t want another pet, but she was a little four month old kitten that decided she wanted me. Never really believed in the CDS before that, but a year later, I think it makes the right choices. Best of luck to both of you, she looks like a sweetheart.”
