Top NFL destinations for Brendan Sorsby ahead of supplemental draft

Former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is moving on to the NFL after his off-field gambling issues came to a head in recent weeks.

Sorsby will enter the NFL supplemental draft, an event on the NFL calendar that normally doesn’t make major headlines. However, there have been a few past big names to come from the late-offseason event, such as Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter and former NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar.

There are teams that could line up to take Sorsby in the supplemental draft with hopes that he could bring similar success to Kosar. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback led his team to three AFC championship games in five years during the 1980s.

Despite the shadow of Sorsby’s off-field actions, he had a successful run in college with a completion rate of 61.4% for 7,208 yards and 60 touchdowns versus 18 interceptions. Here are the top landing spots for Sorsby to watch for.

Atlanta Falcons

Given the injury histories of Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa, the Falcons would be wise to select Sorsby. Atlanta offers a bevy of offensive late, and Sorsby could step in and succeed.

Arizona Cardinals

Jacoby Brissett is a stop-gap quarterback, and Carson Beck is a third-round pick, so the Cardinals don’t look finished at building for the future. Adding Sorsby to an offense that features Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jeremiyah Love could be intriguing.

Dallas Cowboys

While Dak Prescott is well-established as the starter, adding Sorsby would draw more attention to the Cowboys, and that could benefit owner Jerry Jones’ brand or not. In terms of football, Sorsby would give the Cowboys, where there isn’t much after Sam Howell.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns already have a crowd of quarterbacks, so why not one more? Cleveland has yet to find a long-term solution at quarterback, and adding Sorsby could add to the mix of competition with Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins let go of Tua Tagovailoa, and Malik Willis doesn’t look like a sure winner as the franchise quarterback of the future. Miami’s backups don’t hold a lot of experience or upside in Quinn Ewers, Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski in terms of future starters.

Minnesota Vikings

As J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray battle for the starting quarterback job, the Vikings don’t look settled for the long run. It became clear when the Vikings also re-signed Carson Wentz this offseason, so Sorsby could give the Vikings another option for the future and more depth in the meantime.

New York Jets

The Jets are clearly in transition at quarterback with veteran Geno Smith returning. New York likely doesn’t have a future Pro Bowler on the depth chart in backups Brady Cook, Cade Klubnik and Bailey Zappe.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Someone has to play quarterback in 2027 for the Steelers because Aaron Rodgers is calling 2026 his final season. Pittsburgh realistically doesn’t have a future franchise quarterback in Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield has contract questions, and the Buccaneers also don’t have a promising quarterback room behind him. Jake Browning struggled for the Cincinnati Bengals last season, and Connor Bazelak and Jalon Daniels don’t have a lot of experience.
