Woman on Morning Walk Makes Life-Changing Discovery: ‘Chosen Us’

A woman was taking her baby for a walk when she made a discovery that immediately changed her life.

Nia, who gave her first name only, lives in Hawaii and recently became the owner of a kitten—after she was chosen by the “cat distribution system.”

“We found him on a walk,” Nia told Newsweek. “Someone had dumped him in a box on the side of the road.”

And while Nia said she was “not planning on getting another cat, because we already have another orange cat who we also found dumped,” she added: “We definitely couldn’t leave him in the condition he was in. So we took him home.”

Nia shared the moment she found the kitten in a video to her TikTok account, @doodoocat1, on October 14, announcing she had been “chosen by the cat distribution system,” the term used when someone unexpectedly becomes the owner of a feline.

In the clip, Nia was visibly emotional as she held a tiny orange kitten in her arms, and said she was out on a walk when she spotted the sick kitten, with infections in his eyes, which someone had “dumped.”

Nia showed where the kitten had been left in a box by the side of the road, and said: “He needed our help. He had these scabs on his eyes, and he crawled right into my hand even though he couldn’t see, so we decided to take him home.

“I put him in the stroller, and off we went,” she added.

Now, Nia told Newsweek “our little guy is doing really well,” though she said the veterinarian believes he may always be “partially blind” due to the scar tissue on his eyes.

TikTok users were in tears, awarding the video more than 10,000 likes, as one commenter wrote: “Thank you so much for saving this precious little soul.”

Another was horrified at the idea that “someone dumped a helpless kitten with a terrible eye infection to fend for himself,” as a third posted: “Omg [oh my God] I hate people. Thank you for saving that little baby.”

“God bless you sweetie and that precious baby,” another wrote, asking “please keep us updated.”

And Nia has obliged, posting multiple clips of her new pet. In the few short weeks since Nia found him, the kitten has grown in confidence, become healthy and playful, and completely settled into life in his new home.
