Golden Retriever Decides It’s Time for Owner To Wake Up, Method Goes Viral

Every morning, a golden retriever comes up with a genius way to get her owners out of bed—internet users can’t cope with one specific plan that almost got her into trouble.

In a viral TikTok video shared on Sunday under the username @mackandskye, the pup can be seen walking up to her owners’ bedroom, holding a chocolate bar in her mouth, knowing that they’ll immediately jump out of bed to take it from of her.

“Every morning she gets something she knows she can’t have to get us out of bed. Today it was a Dubai chocolate bar,” the caption says, “this one got us out of bed real quick.”

Why did this specific item make the poster and her partner immediately jump out of bed? Because chocolate is not only toxic to dogs, but also very often fatal.

Chocolate is dangerous for canines because it contains two stimulants, caffeine and theobromine, that dogs cannot metabolize effectively. These substances can build up in a pup’s body and overstimulate the nervous and cardiovascular systems, leading to toxicity.

Darker and purer types of chocolate, such as unsweetened, semi-sweet, and dark chocolate, contain higher levels of these chemicals and are more toxic than milk chocolate.

However, even white chocolate, although it has lower levels of harmful compounds, still contains trace amounts and should be avoided. Other foods containing coca, such as baking cocoa, pudding mix, and brownies mix, can also be harmful.

If a dog eats chocolate, owners should contact their veterinarian immediately and try to estimate the amount and type consumed. Signs of chocolate poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, rapid breathing, weakness, and increased heart rate. Delays in veterinary care can be fatal.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 249,000 views and more than 34,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Golden girl, commented: “This is such a golden retriever manipulation tactic and I’m here for it.”

Steph said: “My dog does this but with my socks and only ever takes them when he wants cuddles.”

Noeldreams added: “I didn’t know this was a setting for the retriever model.”
