A man’s attempt to include his dog in a romantic proposal has gone viral after the pup appeared to dramatically “reject” him—much to the internet’s delight.

In a video that has been viewed more than 1.8 million times, Matt can be seen getting down on one knee in front of Rosie, a 5‑year‑old toy poodle, holding out a plush ring box with a toy diamond ring inside. But instead of calmly accepting the moment, Rosie steps closer, looks at the ring—and then shakes her head vigorously, as if saying no.

The unexpected reaction left onlookers laughing and quickly turned the clip into a hit on social media.

‘It Genuinely Looked Like She Was Saying No’

Ila Oxman, who lives in the Washington Metropolitan Area, said the moment was all in good fun—and entirely in character for their dog, named Rosie.

“Matt wanted to include our dog in the proposal since she’s such a big part of our relationship and daily life, so it felt only right that she got ‘proposed to’ as well,” Oxman told Newsweek.

Oxman said they immediately burst out laughing when Rosie started shaking her head.

“When we saw the head shake, we thought it was hilarious because it genuinely looked like she was saying no,” she said.

‘I’ve Kind of Become the Third Wheel’

The moment was made even funnier, Oxman explained, because Rosie is famously devoted to Matt.

“Ever since Matt and I started dating, I’ve kind of become the third wheel,” she said. “Rosie is completely obsessed with him.”

According to Oxman, the dog waits up for him at night, sits by the door when he’s out, and refuses to relax until he comes home.

“She won’t go to bed until he does, waits by the door for him to come home, and won’t even hang out with me on the couch in the meantime,” she said. “She literally screams when he walks in.”

Internet Reacts

The clip quickly struck a chord with viewers, many of whom joked that Rosie had officially vetoed the engagement.

“The cutest no we’ve ever seen from a proposal,” one commenter wrote.

“Engagement is off, the dog did not approve of him,” another joked.

Others praised the couple—and Matt in particular—for including their pet in the special moment.

“This is like the most adorable thing I’d ever seen,” one user wrote. “Matt is a real catch.”

Another added: “She wants diamonds too or nothing at all.”

Oxman said the response has been overwhelming, especially as the account is relatively new.

“We’ve loved the reaction,” she said. “As a new account, it’s been so exciting to see the video reach over a million views so quickly and to watch so many people connect with it.”
