LIV Golf may have found the funding necessary to keep its operations running for another season, but it appears to have a very significant problem in the name of Jon Rahm.
The upstart golf federation fears that Rahm will soon quit the league and abandon ship, according to a report from The Telegraph, which noted Rahm expects to make his decision in the coming weeks. The report comes just a day after news broke that the DP World Tour is rescinding an offer for LIV golfers to compete on its international platform.
“The DP World Tour has begun notifying current LIV golfers that, beyond the 2026 season, it will resume imposing heavy-handed fines and tournament suspensions as part of its conflicting events rule,” golf insider Gabby Herzig of the New York Times wrote.
Rahm is reportedly still owed up to nine figures from LIV Golf, which is in the midst of a full-scale restructuring after losing funding from the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Earlier this summer Rahm said he is “always optimistic” when asked about the future of the golf league.
“I play a game for a living. I can’t really be too upset about how things are going in life. Even though I’m very frustrated on the course very often, off the course I’m very different to what a lot of people think,” he said.
Rahm initially signed a contract worth up to $300 million.
