The Los Angeles Lakers downgraded the young prospect Bronny James on Sunday night.
According to the team’s initial injury report, James was listed as questionable due to left lower leg soreness. As the Lakers prepare for their game on Sunday afternoon, James was officially downgraded to out, according to a team announcement.
Lately, James has landed some playing time for the Lakers. When the Lakers made a stop in Ohio to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, James checked in off the bench for eight minutes of action.
The second-year guard went 3-3 from the field to score eight points, while producing two assists and two rebounds. James’ playing time was late into the game. The Lakers suffered a 129-99 loss against the Cavaliers.
When the Lakers returned to the court on January 30 to take on the Washington Wizards, a blowout in favor of LA led JJ Redick to give James some playing time for the second game in a row. James managed to check in for five minutes. That time around, he went 1-3 from the field and scored four points.
The Lakers dominated the Wizards with a 142-111 victory.
This year, Bronny James hasn’t landed a consistent role with the Lakers’ primary roster. Prior to his recent two appearances, James collected DNPs for four games in a row.
Overall, James made 26 appearances this season. He typically averages seven minutes on the court. He is posting averages of 1.8 points and 1.1 assists while shooting 37 percent from the field and 37 percent from three.
In addition to playing with LA, James has picked up some playing time in the NBA G League with the South Bay Lakers.
During the Tip-Off Tournament run, James appeared in six games. With 30 minutes of playing time, he shot 35 percent from the field to average 9.5 points per game. He also racked up 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists. In regular-season play, James made just three appearances. He posted averages of 17.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.
The Lakers are at Madison Square Garden on Sunday to take on the New York Knicks. With James out, he’ll get another chance to get cleared before the trip concludes. The Lakers are set to take on the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, February 3.
