Rey Mysterio has made the trip to Riyadh, but his status for the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match remains in question. WWE fans were concerned for Mysterio after the legendary luchador appeared to suffer an injury during his singles match with Austin Theory on “Monday Night Raw.” There was relief within the professional wrestling community when Mysterio took a photo of himself with Penta and Dragon Lee on the charter flight to Saudi Arabia.

While it’s good news that Mysterio is in Riyadh, his participation at Saturday’s event isn’t set in stone. PWInsider reports that Mysterio is dealing with a rib issue. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, and there’s no word on whether or not Mysterio will be cleared for the men’s Royal Rumble match.

Rey Mysterio’s Storyline Entering Royal Rumble 2026

Mysterio has had a prominent role on “Monday Night Raw” as of late. He has linked up with Penta and Lee in an effort to fight off Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, and Theory of The Vision faction. With all members of The Vision confirmed for the Royal Rumble match, the plan is likely for Mysterio, Penta, and Lee to work together to try to take the top heel stable out.

The Vision has made it clear that their lone goal for “Royal Rumble 2026” is to ensure that Breakker wins the men’s over-the-top-rope spectacle to secure a world title match at “WrestleMania 42.” Whether or not Mysterio will get the green light in an attempt to thwart that plan remains to be seen.
