Social-media users have been left in hysterics by a 3-year-old insisting she didn’t try out her mom’s makeup, despite clearly wearing the evidence all over her face.
Mom of two McKenzie Trahan, 29, was getting ready for work when she heard her youngest daughter “fussing on the monitor.” She went to check on her, and, by the time she got back, the makeup she left on the counter looked as if it had been moved.
Coincidentally (and completely unrelated), her older daughter Bellamy, 3, appeared to have a new set of eyebrows.
McKenzie, who resides in Texas, told Newsweek that Bellamy’s personality is “larger than life” and she always keeps her parents on their toes.
“All my makeup sits on a little vanity in my bathroom, and I stepped away to check the baby monitor because I heard the baby fussing,” McKenzie said. “I came back to a 3-year-old with new-and-improved eyebrows and a mascara tube that was miraculously in the same spot I left it (though maybe a little closer to the edge of the counter).”
McKenzie captured a video of the moment she asked Bellamy if she used the mascara, knowing there was only one answer. During the clip, Bellamy denied the allegations and asked to see the mascara, because, clearly, she needed to see the evidence before giving her final answer.
While the video was captured in June primarily for her husband, Michael Trahan, McKenzie couldn’t resist sharing it on TikTok (@mckenzie.trahan20). In just a matter of days the video has gone viral with over 8.3 million views and more than 726,000 likes at the time of writing.
McKenzie loves capturing these silly moments for her husband who works away, but she joked that the hardest part was trying “to keep a straight face” throughout.
“Bellamy had been asking me in the weeks leading up if she could wear makeup, and I’d allowed her to use a powder brush with no powder on her face. She definitely took it upon herself to level up her makeup game though,” McKenzie continued.
After being confronted by her mom about her new makeup regime, Bellamy finally gave in. Although she didn’t confess to doing it herself, but rather, she told her mom that “the dogs did it to her.”
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for McKenzie to wash the mascara off. She also explained the importance of asking first and said that she should never use anyone else’s eye makeup.
Michael loves receiving these videos from his wife, telling Newsweek that it helps him “not miss the little moments” when he’s away from home. He will often wake up to clips showing his daughter’s antics, and it always makes for such a funny start to his day.
Both parents have been blown away by the online response on TikTok. While they have both known for a long time how comedic Bellamy is, they had no idea internet users would enjoy the video so much.
Michael said: “It’s still so hard to fathom that a video of my daughter has gone viral, I cannot believe how far it’s gotten. My wife and my kids are the greatest thing in my life, and when I get these videos at work, it brightens me up seeing them so happy and playful. I hope it also helped turned someone’s day around because I know it made mine a whole lot better.”
While Bellamy’s eyebrows may be back to normal now, she got her first lipstick shortly after this. McKenzie got Bellamy a tinted ChapStick which the toddler was “over the moon excited about.”
Makeup is something that Bellamy has shown interest in ever since she was a baby. She would often sit on her mom’s lap, watching her apply products and observing with keen curiosity. When Bellamy got older, she would observe and ask how each product is applied.
“That’s how she knew exactly what to do with that mascara when she got her hands on it,” McKenzie told Newsweek. “We value honesty in our house, so I explained that, if she wanted to play with something, she needed to ask. We also talked about how makeup is sometimes not safe or healthy for everyone’s face, and that some things should only be used by one person.
“She now has her very own Bert’s Bees tinted chap stick, Elf sheer lip gloss, and even an Ulta powder brush all to herself. We won’t upgrade to real makeup for a few years until we can practice healthy skincare, but she’s definitely enjoying her newfound freedom into the makeup and fingernail polish world,” McKenzie continued.
Indeed, Bellamy even dressed as Elsa from Disney’s Frozen for Halloween, and she got to wear the faintest bit of makeup for the occasion. Never mind the candy, she was most excited about the makeup.
Since the clip was shared on TikTok, internet users were quick to defend Bellamy and insist she’s innocent. This has led to more than 10,800 comments on TikTok already.
Among the responses, one TikTok user wrote: “Baby is just natural Frida Kahlo.”
Another person replied: “she didn’t do it, maybe it was Maybelline.”
A third said: “As her aunty and lawyer she’s innocent.”
One comment reads: “plot twist she used a different mascara.”
