The Dallas Cowboys are set to begin their 2026-27 season in an NFC East clash against the New York Giants on Sunday night. Prior to the two teams taking the field, Cowboys star wideout George Pickens made it incredibly clear how he feels the Dallas wide receiving corps matches up against the Giants secondary.
This past season, Pickens made the leap from a player capable of flash plays to truly becoming one of the most impactful players in all of football, recording 93 receptions for 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
Alongside CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys receiving corps sure seems to be one of the most feared skill position groups in all of football. And as far as Pickens sees things, the Cowboys passing game should have no issues picking apart a Giants secondary that one Giants defensive back believes quite highly in.
Earlier this month, Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II made his high expectations for his position group publicly known heading into the upcoming season, claiming that the best cornerback room in the NFL resides in New York.
On Wednesday, Pickens was informed of Newsome’s lofty claim while speaking with reporters. It was safe to say that Pickens does not agree with Newsome’s assessment of his cornerback room.
“That’s definitely how he should feel,” said Pickens via John Machota of The Athletic. “Now, how we should feel, I’d definitely say a completely different story. That’s cool that he thinks that. He should definitely feel like that, but I feel like we’re definitely not thinking the same thing.”
Last season, the Giants were exactly league average against the pass, allowing the 16th most passing yards per game. Clearly, Greg Newsome II believes his presence in the Giants locker room will make a significant difference in his first year in New York.
On paper, Week 1 will present as one of the toughest tests that the Giants secondary will face all season, as the Cowboys ranked as the second-best passing offense in football last season, averaging 266.3 passing yards per game. So we may very well find out just how much weight Newsome’s claim has early on in the 2026-27 season.
