It would be an understatement to say that “Avengers: Doomsday” is one of the most anticipated movies in a long time from Marvel Studios, as fans are anxiously awaiting any glimpse of footage from the upcoming release.
With the movie set to hit theaters in December, it’s going to be an epic event, although some of the most recent Marvel film releases might have lowered fans’ expectations. Early chatter has raised the expectations once again, as it includes a star-studded cast unseen since the previous Avengers movies, and more superheroes than most non-Marvel fans can keep track of.
Adding to the excitement over the new movie is the recent Walt Disney Studios panel at CinemaCon 2026. On Thursday, Dr. Doom actor Robert Downey Jr. arrived on stage along with producer Kevin Feige and directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
Captain America himself, Chris Evans, also walked out on stage to further applause and cheers before the group unveiled the first trailer footage, much to the excitement of those in attendance.
While there hasn’t been a leaked trailer hitting social media yet, various descriptions of what others saw during this new footage have. According to one account on X, the trailer “holds nothing back” regarding who’s in it or what’s going on.
Early on, X-Men leader Professor X is on-screen reacting to an explosion outside of a badly damaged X-Mansion. Downey’s Victor von Doom appears without the Doom mask on, warning everyone of “impending doom” that requires an “unthinkable decision.”
That’s not all from the X-Men, as Gambit appears in a scene, battling with Shang-Chi. There’s a view of the X-Men’s Mystique changing into Yelena to fight against the real Yelena. In part of the footage, Thor gives a powerful speech to the rest of the Avengers about putting aside differences and working together.
A major reveal shows the brand-new A logo and a newly rebuilt Avengers Tower. Additionally, Namor, who previously debuted in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” appears, as he’s parted the sea to allow the Wakandans and Fantastic Four to meet in a unique setting.
According to Discussing Film, another big scene features Thor wielding his Stormbreaker weapon against Doctor Doom. However, Doom shows his immense power by blocking it with the palm of his hand.
The closing footage features the return of Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans with longer hair) wields it once again.
So far, the biggest takeaways from this trailer are that it reveals the first glimpses of Doctor Doom in “Doomsday” footage, as well as the exciting aspect of the X-Men finally being in the MCU with the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and New Avengers. Those new reveals of the Avengers logo and home base should also be exciting for fans.
They previously teased this crossover moment as characters appeared in “Deadpool and Wolverine” several years ago. However, the X-Men and Avengers will get much more extensive treatment in the upcoming movie.
So far, it seems the hype is real, and this will only make fans want to see that trailer more. A trailer release date remains unknown, but Marvel Studios‘ “Avengers: Doomsday” movie releases in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
