Breeder Says Puppy Won’t Grow Over 30lbs, Shock at What Owner Realizes

When a dog owner from Oregon bought their pit bull, the breeder reassured them that he would not grow into a big dog—the size of him now has shocked internet users.

In a viral video shared in December on Instagram under the username @ezu.bk, the poster can be seen playing with the small puppy right after taking him home, confident that he would not grow over 30 pounds. However, the second half of the clip shows the pup now, and it’s definitely not the size they expected.

“Seller: He won’t get bigger than 30lbs. Me: That’s perfect,” the captions says, as the clip shows what the dog looks like now, 100lbs later.

“At least I know he ain’t starving,” the caption continues, showing the big dog still playing like he’s a little puppy.

While most American pit bull terriers weight an average of 30–60 lbs, some other breeds often referred to as pit bulls, like for example the XL American Bully, can actually exceed 100lbs, even 140lbs if they’re males.

A mixture of American pit bull terrier crossed with English bulldog, American bulldog, and Olde English Bulldogge, this big dogs breed is currently not recognized by main kennel organizations, including the American Kennel Club, due to a lack of consistency in the breed, overlapping traits with other breeds, and its lack of tradition and history.

This breed is known for being muscular, active, and agile, with tremendous power and stamina, but because of its reputation, it’s currently facing bans in parts of the world, like the United Kingdom.

The breed was banned in 2023, under the U.K. Dangerous Dogs Act, making it illegal to own. There is currently no federal law banning this breed in America, but many states and cities have breed-specific legislation or restrictions in place.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 2.9 million views and 296,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Gmoney999ca, commented: “Did you really think a pit wasn’t [going to] grow to be bigger than 30lbs or are you genuinely serious.”

Tenis2310 said: “It’s funny cause as a puppy you could tell bro was [going to] be huge.”

Kymidd wrote: “Idk [I don’t know] he looks light as a feather. Perfect weight to be a lapdog if you ask me.”
