One couple’s clever Halloween makeover of their home in Illinois has captivated viewers on social media.

Images of the exterior of the Chicago home were featured in a Reddit post shared under the username u/LadyMormont00 by Sia Cooper, who is an artist. The post has amassed almost 100,000 upvotes since it was posted on October 1.

The post is titled: “OC—Our house got a Halloween Makeover.” The pictures show the exterior of the home by day and night. The exterior forms the shape of a face, featuring eyes and an open mouth with spiky teeth, which were made using flexible sheet metal, the poster told Newsweek. The stairs in front of the house extend downward, giving the illusion of a tongue sticking out of the mouth. The façade of the home is lit up in red lighting at night.

Cooper and her husband, Mike, who is a firefighter, are in their 40s and live in Chicago with their three kids.

A year or two earlier, Cooper saw a post where someone had “turned their garage into a monster,” and she thought, “Wow, our house would actually be perfect for something like this,’” she said.

“I like to be creative and original, and I wanted our decor to work with the unique architecture of our house, so I sketched out a few designs and we picked this one,” Cooper said, adding that “basically we wanted something unique, clever, and somewhat minimalist.”

“My husband figured out what materials would work best,” Cooper said, noting that “wood was too heavy, so we went with a very flexible sheet metal.” Her husband used “tin snips to cut the metal for the teeth and eyes, then primed and spray-painted them accordingly.”

Cooper said: “The house itself does most of the work for us. We’re planning on adding a forked tongue next year to complete the look.”
