Hunting dogs may be known for their bravery and agility, but a German shorthaired pointer’s petrified reaction to a tiny cat has left internet viewers in hysterics.
The hilarious clip was shared on TikTok by user @why.is.the.gundog, showing just how terrified the GSP seemed as soon as he spotted the cat nearby. The video shows the dog warily making his way down the stairs inside the family house, only to be confronted by a horrifying sight further down the hallway—the dreaded feline.
As the large canine got closer, he even hid behind his owner’s legs and refused to get too close to the terrifying cat. As much as the owner tried to encourage the GSP to keep moving, the dog simply couldn’t make it and went back up the stairs until the ginger cat was moved.
The footage was shared on TikTok on December 27, and it has since gone viral with over 428,300 views and more than 55,000 likes at the time of writing.
Newsweek has contacted @why.is.the.gundog via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
Just to highlight how dramatic the dog’s reaction was at the time, the owner noted in the text overlay that this is what happened when their “30 kg hunting hound” met the brother-in-law’s “0.5 kg cat.”
The American Kennel Club explains that GSPs have a very high energy level and a strong prey drive, making them versatile hunters and talented gun dogs. However, that wasn’t quite the case in this scenario as the cat certainly got the better of the GSP.
Even the dog’s owner couldn’t believe how scared he was in that moment, with the caption joking, “what a baby.”
In fact, the ordeal didn’t end there either. The TikTok user shared a follow-up video of his dog struggling to be in the same room as the cat. The amusing clip shows the nervous pup circling the room anxiously and refusing to walk past the feline. The GSP ultimately had to be picked up by his owner leaving the room together.
Internet users can’t get enough of the dog’s horrified response to the feline, leading to more than 170 comments on the viral video so far. Many people lauded his antics while others jumped to his defense, nonetheless.
