A viral TikTok video showing a dachshund suspended in a makeshift grooming hammock while having her claws trimmed has left viewers on the platform in stitches, as they share their own experiences of trying to manage the notoriously wriggly breed.
The short video, posted by the dog’s owner @madisonnnmitchell on February 22, has been viewed more than 500,000 times and received over 104,000 likes to date. The candid footage shows the dachshund being gently strapped into a homemade holder fashioned from a plastic shopping bag, with holes cut out for the dog’s legs and the bag hooked to a long pole resting across kitchen shelves. With the dog safely suspended, the owner sits on the floor and carefully files the canine’s claws.
The post was captioned: “She wouldn’t let me do her back feet soooo this is my last resort.”
The video quickly struck a chord with fellow dachshund owners, many of whom flooded the comments section with reactions ranging from sympathy to outright laughter. Several viewers shared photos of their own dogs suspended in proper grooming hammocks, creating a running visual joke built around dachshunds’ distinctive long bodies and short legs. In some images the dachshunds are shown dangling near ceiling height.
“Everyone Dropping a Pic Of their Dog in Air jail is Absolutely KILLING ME PLZLZLZZ,” one viewer commented.
“This is HILARIOUS—a mom of three weenies,” another added.
“All the pups in the comments just hanging in air jail,” another said.
“I’ve never seen anybody take dachshund air jail so seriously,” a different viewer shared.
“You’re telling me I bought a sling when I could’ve done this,” another added.
“I need a DIY video of this ASAP,” another commented.
While the setup in the video is improvised, grooming hammocks themselves are a real and widely used tool, particularly for small dogs that struggle with nail trims and vet visits. Designed to keep pets secure and calm by taking pressure off their paws, the hammocks allow owners or groomers to access claws safely without wrestling with anxious pets.
Dachshunds, originally bred for hunting badgers, are known for their strong-willed personalities and sensitivity around their feet, which can make routine grooming tasks especially challenging. Nail trimming, in particular, can be a stressful part of pet care, as it is common for the dog to resist clippers.
