The New England Patriots (and Dave Portnoy) are back at the Super Bowl.
The last time the Patriots played in the championship game, seven years ago against the Los Angeles Rams, the Barstool Sports founder was barred from the venue. After attempting to sneak in to watch his favorite team play for the Lombardi Trophy, security dragged Portnoy off to a holding cell in the dungeons of the stadium as his team went on to win their sixth Super Bowl title.
This year, though, Portnoy, who has been unbanned by the NFL and allowed to attend NFL Radio Row, will be in attendance as he hosts two suites for his close friends and Patriots colleagues who work at Barstool Sports.
One person who won’t be in the suite with Portnoy, however, is the quarterback who led the Patriots to six Super Bowl rings: Tom Brady.
Brady, who won a seventh title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, has distanced himself from the Patriots organization. He has gone as far as to say that in the lead-up to Super LX between the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, he has “no dog in the fight” and is a neutral watching the game.
This did not sit well with superfan Portnoy, who sacrificed his body and freedom at the Super Bowl he attended most recently, which Brady helped New England win.
“This is for Patriots fans eyes only,” wrote Portnoy on X. “I don’t want to leave anything unsaid before the Super Bowl. So I’m just gonna say this and move on. I think it’s [expletive] Tom Brady said he has no dog in the fight for the Super Bowl. It’s pretty obvious he doesn’t give a [expletive] about us.”
Brady drew more ire from Patriots fans this past week when he announced that if he had a vote for NFL MVP, he would give it to Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford over New England’s Drake Maye, who is seen as the heir apparent to Brady in Boston.
