A stubborn dog’s refusal to hydrate the traditional way has turned into online comedy gold, after a video showing the pet drinking from a human glass went viral among viewers on TikTok.
Posted by the canine’s owner under @cooperslifeeee on November 12, the 11-second clip shows the large dog daintily sipping water from a glass placed on a coffee table, rather than using a pet’s water bowl on the floor. An overlaid text on the video provided the context: “My dog won’t drink water from a bowl, so he has his own cup on the coffee table.”
The TikTok post, captioned, “his own ‘lil cup,” has racked up more than 347,000 views and over 85,000 likes since it was uploaded, drawing laughter and amused disbelief from viewers who have flooded the comments with lighthearted reactions.
The video’s humor stems not just from the dog’s unexpectedly refined drinking habits but also from the background music. The moment plays out against a backdrop of moody, angsty music, adding a layer of comedic melodrama to the pup’s defiance.
Viewers have rushed to the comments to share their opinions as to why the dog might prefer the unusual mode of drinking water, but the pet’s owner was quick to clarify that he simply has a strong attachment to the cup.
“Is it because he’s too tall and needs it elevated like that,” one viewer posted.
“Could it be because he doesn’t like to extend his neck all the way down to get a drink?” another asked.
“Maybe! We’ve put a bowl on there and he almost always chooses the cup still,” the dog’s owner replied.
“Try putting a bowl of water there and see if he drinks from that?” a third viewer wrote, to which the dog’s owner responded: “We’ve tried and he almost always picks the cup.”
But many had no problem with the canine’s apparent love of drinking from the cup on the table.
“Like the distinguished gentleman he is,” Dr Pepper’s official TikTok account commented.
“I’m more impressed there’s no water on the table,” another said. “My girl has a massive water bowl and still has a trail of water following her.”
