Owners Set Up ‘Meet and Greet’ for Dog and Puppy Sibling, Doesn’t Go Well

A dog owner has revealed what happened when her dramatic German shorthaired pointer met his new puppy sibling, and internet viewers are obsessed with his reaction.

For the first five years of his life, Copper the GSP has been the only dog in the family (and he has loved it that way). But when his owners recently brought home a 10-week-old puppy, named Moose, Copper wasn’t best pleased about the new addition.

Chloe Pouthier, 24, captured a hilarious video of the moment Copper got so overwhelmed by the puppy’s antics, he could no longer stand it—literally. Copper leapt into the arms of Pouthier’s brother and insisted on being carried like a baby. Pouthier, of Rochester, New York, told Newsweek that they were expecting Copper to be “curious and nervous” about Moose, but his reaction left the whole family in hysterics.

“Moose had been wrapped up in a blanket during the ride home, and Copper immediately started sniffing, even though Moose was no longer inside it. He was so preoccupied smelling the blanket that he didn’t even see my sister carry him into the house,” Pouthier said.

She continued: “We brought Moose into our living room and set him down. Copper immediately ran in and saw him. They went up to sniff each other, and that was enough for Copper. Moose just had so much energy and was all over Copper, and it was just overwhelming for him.”

As a result, the 70-pound pointer refused to stay on the ground and insisted on being held.

Copper’s hilarious reaction was shared on TikTok (@chlojo1724) and it has gone viral with over 1.7 million views and more than 210,400 likes at the time of writing. The caption alongside the clip jokes that “the meet and greet did not go as planned.”

Moose has been part of the family for over a week now, and Copper is gradually getting accustomed to the new addition. He will occasionally engage in playtime with Moose, who is also a pointer, although Pouthier said it “only lasts a couple of seconds.”

The family is doing everything they can to minimalize how overwhelmed Copper feels by giving him plenty of alone time and fuss.

“Copper is definitely the jealous type too, so, whenever we are playing tug-of-war, Copper grabs a toy and tries to play. He’s also very dramatic because Moose will lay on his bed and Copper will come up to me and whine like he’s trying to tattle on him for taking his spot,” Pouthier continued.

The online reaction to Copper’s theatrics has certainly delighted internet viewers. Pouthier had no idea her video would generate so much attention, telling Newsweek that she was “literally shaking” when she opened the app and saw all the likes and views.

Copper has gained quite the fan base of social media users already, and Pouthier said she hopes to share updates with them as the two dogs become friends, permitting that Copper is willing to stay in the same vicinity as Moose for long enough, of course.

“It honestly made my day, knowing they gave someone a good laugh, and I’d love to keep spreading that little bit of joy whenever I can,” Pouthier said.

In the days since the TikTok video went viral, hundreds of people have taken to the comments to laud Copper’s dramatic response. This has led to almost 600 comments at the time of writing.

One comment reads: “tetradactyl stages scared me, too.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Mom- where in the hell did you get this Gremlin?”

A third person replied: “The puppy being totally unbothered and just continuing to play is killing me.”

One commenter joked: “and how long is he staying with us?”
