MANILA, Philippines — Born in a family kitchen filled with laughter and the aroma of freshly baked ube, Purple Yam Homemade Cakes and Pastries has grown into a proudly Pinoy dessert brand ready to step into the spotlight.

At the center of its story is ube — the cherished Filipino purple yam that has become the brand’s signature flavor and defining identity.

What started as homemade ube cakes shared among family and friends has grown into a thriving homegrown business that connects with today’s Pinoy food enthusiasts and young dessert lovers alike.

Founded by Oyos Mendoza, the owner said that Purple Yam is more than just a bakery, it is a celebration of passion, purpose, and community — infused into every slice.

For Mendoza, baking has always meant more than simply making food; it has been about bringing people together. Cakes and pastries were constants at family gatherings, celebrations, and even quiet afternoons at home.

“As I shared our homemade cakes with neighbors and friends, I realized food has the power to connect people,” Oyos shared. “That’s when I knew this could be more than a hobby. It could be a business with heart.”

From a small home-based passion project, the brand quickly evolved into a name known for handcrafted quality and authentic Filipino flavors — led by its signature ube creations.

Today, the brand proudly stands as a Filipino enterprise rooted in sincerity, craftsmanship, and community.

“We want every bite to feel nostalgic and joyful,” said Mendoza. “But at the same time, we want our growth to uplift others — especially local suppliers and families who grow with us.”

Purple Yam specializes in: signature ube cakes and ube-themed pastries; moist chocolate cakes; and freshly prepared, made-to-order desserts for birthdays, weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions.

“A big dream of mine is to create livelihood opportunities for neighbors,” the entrepreneur shared. “If Purple Yam grows, I want families to grow with it.”

By sourcing ingredients locally and exploring part-time or home-based work opportunities, the brand aims to build not just a brand — but a community-rooted bakery known for good food, warm service, and integrity.

In a world of mass production and fleeting food trends, Purple Yam stands as a reminder that the sweetest success stories are still the ones baked at home.
