The other side of Michael Jackson

Aside from being the greatest entertainer of all time, Michael Jackson was also a brilliant writer, and he loved to draw. His poems and reflections are compiled in a book, Dancing The Dream.

The Michael Jackson (MJ) mania is raging globally in anticipation of his biopic, “Michael,” which opens on April 24 in theaters. As an MJ diehard, I can hardly contain my excitement. MJ fanatics unite at Uptown Mall Cinema Megaworld BGC on the opening day of “Michael.” The Moonwalkers Society and Official Michael Jackson Fans Club of the Philippines are mounting an exhibit of MJ memorabilia, which starts at 10 a.m. There will be fun games and a best-dressed competition called “Moonwalker of the Night” at the pre-show, and an electrifying performance by MJ impersonator Daryl Jackson. Screening is at 8 p.m.

As the countdown to “MJ Day” begins, let me share another side of the King of Pop. Aside from being the greatest entertainer of all time, Michael was also a brilliant writer, and he loved to draw. His poems and reflections are compiled in a book, Dancing The Dream. He dedicated the book to his mother, and the introduction was written by Elizabeth Taylor (published by Doubleday in 1992 and reissued by Transworld in 2009 after MJ’s death). It also contains rare photos of Michael and some of his drawings.

The book is one of my favorite items in my massive collection of MJ memorabilia. It will make you scratch beneath the surface and discover MJ’s inner workings. Michael has moonwalked into our hearts, and that’s where he will stay. I just can’t stop loving you, MJ. You can never be dethroned as the King of Pop.

Here are excerpts from Dancing The Dream:

Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the dance of the Creator. Dancers come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the dance lives on. On many an occasion when I’m dancing, I’ve felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I’ve felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known. I keep dancing and then, it is the eternal dance of creation. The creation and creator merge into one wholeness of joy. I keep on dancing and dancing and dancing until there is only the dance.

The Last Tear

Your words stabbed my heart and I cried tears of pain. “Get out,” I shouted. “These are the last tears I’ll ever cry for you.” So you left.

I waited hours but you didn’t return. That night by myself, I cried tears of frustration.

I waited weeks but you had nothing to say. Thinking of your voice, I cried tears of loneliness.

I waited months but you left no sign for me. In the depths of my heart, I cried tears of despair.

How strange that all those tears could not wash away the hurt. Then one thought of love pierced my bitterness. I remembered you in the sunlight with a smile as sweet as May wine. A tear of gratitude started to fall and miraculously you were back. Soft fingers touched my cheek and you bent over for a kiss.

“Why have you come?” I whispered.

“To wipe away your last tear,” you replied. “It was the one you saved for me.

KFC’s garlic butter fest

What a blast I had at KFC’s Garlic Butter Fest (Glazed in Gold) at the famous chicken brand’s only gold store in the metro located in Quezon Ave. Thanks a mil to PR Guru-my ninang Jennylei Caberte for the invite and to the KFC bigwigs, especially to Charmaine Pamintuan for making me feel so welcome. The “Golden” event marked the return of KFC’s Garlic Butter Chicken.

Spotted at the celebration were Justin Coveney, a.k.a. “Flying Jeepney” of Netflix “Physical Asia” (Team PH), P-Pop group, KAIA, Angela Muji and Rabin Angeles. Content creators and influencers came in full force to document the “mukbang-worthy” event.

With the yumminess of KFC’s garlic butter chicken, all other brands will chicken out. Nobody does it butter, este, better.

Princess Aliyah’s ‘PBB’ stint

Sparkle sweetheart Princess Aliyah is in full bloom after her “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB) stint. Being a “PBB” housemate is yet another impressive addition to her résumé, which includes being part of the cast of the London West End production of “The Sound of Music.” Princess is raring to reign supreme.

Viva loveteam Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji grace the KFC event.

Here’s my chat with Princess Aliyah:

What’s your takeaway from your ‘PBB’ stint?

“I learned that healing takes time and that you have to face your emotions honestly to move forward. The bond we formed as housemates showed me how important it is to have people who support and listen to you. It helped me trust myself more and realize that I’m stronger than I sometimes think.”

Who did you like to win?

“I’d choose the current Big Winners. They are deserving. I saw their growth inside the house and how they handled the challenges and stayed true to themselves.”

What’s your most memorable ‘PBB’ moment?

“The first time I became a leader. At that time, I really didn’t want the responsibility, but I was chosen anyway. It ended up being a big moment for me because it pushed me out of my comfort zone.”
