MANILA, Philippines — There are usually two things that we start to do after all the festivities — eat light and spend light.
Spending less at the start of the year means saving so you can get back to the right financial groove, and this could include making food that tastes good but does not cost much. So, it’s time to bring out the cans again and start working wonders with them.
If you have a can of Purefoods luncheon meat on hand, here is one way of making a great meal with it, as developed by the San Miguel Foods Culinary Center.
Cheesy Luncheon Meat Bites
Ingredients:
1 (230 grams) can Purefoods Luncheon Meat
1 (160 grams) bar Magnolia Cheddar Cheese
1 tbsp. dried basil
1 cup Japanese breadcrumbs
1 cup Magnolia All Purpose Flour
2 Magnolia Brown Eggs, beaten
1 cup cooking oil
Procedure:
1. Slice luncheon meat into 1/2-inch squares. Slice cheese into the same size as the luncheon meat. Skewer cheese on top of luncheon meat with a toothpick.
2. Mix dried basil with Japanese breadcrumbs.
3. Dredge the luncheon meat-cheese skewers in the flour, then dip in eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.
4. Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
