MANILA, Philippines – Jessie J revealed on Wednesday, June 4, that she was diagnosed with “early” breast cancer before the release of her single, “No Secrets,” in late April.
“Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word ‘early.’ I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period. I just wanted to be open and share it. One, because selfishly I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard,” Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, said.
The singer said that she will be able to keep her nipples, expressing she knows that getting to talk about her condition will help her process things better.
The English artist further shared that she will be “disappearing for a bit” after the annual Summertime Ball music festival to undergo surgery for her breasts.
“I will come back with massive tits and more music,” she said.
Several singers threw their support behind the “Price Tag” hitmaker, with Snoh Aalegra, Leona Lewis, and Michelle Visage sending their love to her.
“[You’re] literally my favorite person, and I’m praying for you. You’ve got this. My mother had it, and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough, so I’m here for you,” Rita Ora said.
Jessie J further opened up about her journey, stating that going through breast cancer while releasing music in the past two months has put things into perspective for her.
“BUT… Your girl needs a hug,” she admitted.
