On June 19, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines ignited a powerful movement for education with the media launch of its second Charity Run for Education, held at the serene Cafe of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila. This inspiring event sets the stage for the July 20 run at Bridgetowne, Pasig, where every step taken will directly support 1,395 scholars in the foundation’s Educational Assistance Program and 51 scholars in its Technical-Vocational program, helping transform lives through learning.
Led by Tzu Chi Philippines CEO Henry Yuñez and accompanied by key leaders including Deputy CEO Peggy Sy Jiang and Runrio Managing Director Andrew Neri, the launch unveiled exciting new features for runners. Participants will receive eco-friendly race singlets made from recycled PET bottles, collapsible reusable silicone cups, and specially designed finisher medals, reflecting Tzu Chi’s deep commitment to environmental protection alongside education. The run offers 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K categories, welcoming runners of all levels to join this meaningful cause.
Tzu Chi commissioner Jane Sy shared the foundation’s humble beginnings and the inspiring success of the inaugural 2024 run that gathered 6,000 runners. This year, the goal is even more ambitious—8,000 runners united to empower Filipino youth through education. “You are running with joy, you are running with your heart,” said Education Committee Head Rosa So, underscoring the profound impact the scholarship programs have had on over 16,000 scholars and their families since 1995.
Heartfelt testimonies from scholars like Esmeralda Daganasol, who found a second chance through caregiving training, and Heart Baquilar, a college student-athlete, brought to life the transformative power of education supported by Tzu Chi. Communications Head Judy Lao emphasized the endless possibilities unlocked for disadvantaged youth through the foundation’s support.
CEO Henry Yuñez captured the spirit of the event perfectly: “Each step brings young scholars closer to a brighter future.” This run is more than a race—it is a movement to uplift lives, break the cycle of poverty, and nurture dreams.
