GEORGETOWN – Penang’s food game just hit a new high. The island is serving major bragging rights after 74 of its eateries made it into The Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026.

Penang isn’t called a food paradise for nothing; the latest Michelin Guide proves it.

Out of 151 Malaysian listings, nearly half come from the island, with two Michelin Stars, 33 Bib Gourmand and 39 Michelin Selected spots.

"This achievement strengthens Penang’s reputation as a top culinary destination and reflects its diverse food culture," said Wong Hon Wai, the state’s Tourism and Creative Economy Exco.

Newly crowned favourites include Awesome Char Koay Teow, Bee Hwa Café and Sifu Nyonya Cuisine, all earning the Bib Gourmand title for quality eats at wallet-friendly prices.

Five newcomers joined the Michelin Selected list, including Blacklinen, Du-An (Lebuh Pantai), Mémoire, Peninsula House and Sood by Chef Ton, showing off Penang’s mix of tradition and innovation.

Meanwhile, Au Jardin and Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery proudly kept their Michelin Stars.

Wong said the recognition shows local chefs’ commitment to excellence and puts Penang firmly on the global food map.

"With continued passion and effort, Penang will remain the world’s ultimate food paradise," he added.
