The Doubao chatbot, powered by a large language model (LLM) similar to ChatGPT, is now testing a new feature that can transform text or images into realistic video clips, showcasing its exceptional semantic understanding.
Currently in a trial phase with a select group, the new function offers advanced camera movements and diverse artistic styles, highlighting ByteDance's commitment to strengthening Doubao's position in the market. Aicpb.com recently ranked Doubao as the most popular AI app in China, affirming ByteDance's efforts to excel in generative AI despite entering the LLM space relatively late.
ByteDance's push for innovation in generative AI was accelerated earlier this year when CEO Liang Rubo urged faster adoption of new technologies. This drive led to the development of new AI video products, including upgrades to Jimeng AI and the introduction of Seaweed and PixelDance models to the Doubao LLM family.
In a bid to stay ahead in the competitive landscape, ByteDance faces challenges from rivals like Kuaishou Technologies, which launched the AI video-generation platform Kling in June. Despite this, ByteDance remains focused on enhancing its video-generation capabilities, leveraging the experience gained from its platforms like Douyin to refine its models.
The AI-assisted video-creation market in China is projected to grow significantly, with research firm LeadLeo estimating it to reach 9.3 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion) by 2026.
