John Terry is selling his prized footballing mementos, including his two Champions League final shirts for £120,000.
The former Chelsea captain has included the kit he wore in the 2008 final, when he missed what would have been the winning penalty, describing the item as tear-stained.
And he is also selling the “full kit” he changed into to lift the trophy in 2012 despite being suspended for the final against Bayern Munich.
The former England captain’s most valuable item is the Premier League winner’s medal he received after leading Chelsea to their first league title in 50 years in the 2004-05 season. After the final home match of the campaign, he lifted the trophy and was presented with his medal. Two decades on, he is parting with his medal which could fetch £75,000.
It is the marquee item in a 26-lot sale at Goldin Auctions, of New Jersey, with proceeds going to the John Terry Foundation which supports British charities.
He is also offloading some of his match shirts and those he swapped with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The “tear-stained” Chelsea shirt from the defeat to Manchester United in Moscow is set to go for £3,750. Terry slipped while approaching the penalty spot and his strike, which would have won the trophy had it gone in, hit the post.
His miniature Champions League trophy for the club’s triumph in the 2012 final against Bayern Munich is also valued at £3,750.
Terry was suspended for the game having been sent off against Barcelona in the semi-final. But he was “front and centre” as he wore his full kit for the post-match celebration, with his shirt from that day expected to go for £1,875.
The shirt he wore in his final ever game as a Chelsea player against Sunderland in 2017 is estimated at £750, while his Messi and Ronaldo shirts could make up to £20,000.
His Thierry Henry shirt from the Arsenal 2003-04 “Invincibles” season is valued at £750, while his red England shirt from the disastrous 2010 Fifa World Cup carries the same estimate.
Terry said: “My foundation is going to benefit with two close-to-my-heart charities which desperately need the money, so it is going to a great cause.”
A Goldin Auctions spokesperson said: “When considering the greatest defenders in the history of English football, Terry’s name can often be found at the forefront of the conversation.
“A stalwart and imposing presence on Chelsea’s vaunted back line, Terry quickly was anointed as the club’s skipper under newly arrived manager Jose Mourinho, a decision that proved wise beyond measure.
“We are proud to present a remarkable array of memorabilia sourced directly from John Terry’s personal collection, testaments to various stages of his illustrious and accomplished career.”
The sale takes place on December 31.
