TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - OpenAI has expanded its low-cost subscription package, ChatGPT Go, to the global market. The service was first launched in India in August and then made available in approximately 170 countries before being released globally on January 16, 2026.
In its announcement, OpenAI mentioned that the service received positive responses in the countries where it was initially introduced. The company stated, "In markets where Go has been available, we’ve seen strong adoption and regular everyday use for tasks like writing, learning, image creation, and problem-solving," as quoted from The Verge report on January 17, 2026.
ChatGPT Go is priced at US$8 per month, offering more features than the free version, including a larger number of messages, file uploads, and image creation. In terms of pricing, Go falls between the free version of ChatGPT and the Plus package priced at US$20 per month.
OpenAI explained that the Go package is aimed at users who need broader access to their latest fast version of the AI model, GPT-5.2 Instant. Currently, free users can only send 10 messages using GPT-5.2 every five hours before the system switches to a 'mini' version of the model.
Meanwhile, Plus customers get an allowance of 160 messages with GPT-5.2 every three hours. OpenAI stated that Go users will receive 10 times the number of messages, files, and images compared to free users, although they did not specify a specific time or quantity limit.
The company also did not specifically disclose the daily quota for file uploads or image creation for Go users. Up to now, OpenAI has not provided exact numbers for these quotas in all ChatGPT packages. Free users are simply said to have 'limited' access, while the Plus package is marked without a specified quantity.
In addition, OpenAI mentioned that the memory capacity and context window for Go users will be larger than for free users. Currently, the context window for non-reasoning requests is 16K for free users and 32K for Plus, while for reasoning requests, both packages have a context window of 196K.
In the future, OpenAI also plans to display ads in the Go package. The company stated that it will soon start running ads on ChatGPT Go in the United States, while the Plus package and higher-priced subscriptions will remain ad-free.
