TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways after defeating Real Sociedad 3-0, scoring three goals in the final seven minutes of the match at the Reale Arena on Monday.
Atletico now sit fourth in the La Liga standings with 10 points—five points behind league leaders Barcelona and two points adrift of Madrid in second place.
Sociedad dropped to 12th place with seven points, according to the La Liga website as cited by Antara.
Atletico took control of the game early on, though Sociedad managed to keep their goal intact throughout the first half.
The situation changed in the 84th minute when Atletico were awarded a penalty after Job Ochieng committed a handball inside the box.
Grimaldo stepped up to take the spot-kick; the Spanish defender fired a low left-footed shot that wrong-footed Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
Six minutes later, David extended the lead to 2-0 following an Atletico attack that culminated in a low pass to him just outside the penalty area.
The Canadian forward beat two Sociedad defenders before firing a shot into the bottom corner of the net.
In the dying moments of the match, Simeone sealed the 3-0 victory after dribbling into the penalty area. Facing Remiro one-on-one, Simeone struck a shot down the middle that the goalkeeper was unable to stop.
