The first thing that comes to mind when planning a vacation is the carry-on items to comply with the airline's baggage regulations. However, it is also important to pay attention to the clothing and accessories worn during air travel for the sake of comfort and safety. Apart from supporting comfort, clothing choices also affect health and safety.

For instance, wearing tight jeans or painful footwear can turn a pleasant journey into a struggle. Conversely, choosing clothing made of sweat-absorbent fabric, a relaxed silhouette, and supportive shoes can make the journey more comfortable.

Here is a list of clothing and accessories to avoid and those to wear, both for domestic and long-distance flights:

1. Jeans

Style consultant and celebrity fashion expert Lara Grayson suggests opting for lightweight, cool, and comfortable trousers instead of jeans. She believes wearing jeans during a flight can be uncomfortable and restrictive.

"I know jeans are a staple for many people, but for flights, I would avoid them. Who wants their buttons to dig into them during a flight while trying to feel comfortable," she said, as quoted from Daily Mail.

Instead of jeans, she recommends lightweight linen or cotton trousers with an elastic waistband, as well as sporty pants and matching zip-up tops.

2. Jumpsuit

Wearing a jumpsuit during a flight may cause inconvenience, especially if one needs to visit the restroom multiple times. Instead of a jumpsuit, she suggests wearing straight-cut trousers and a loose-fitting t-shirt that is both comfortable and stylish.

3. High-heeled Shoes

Shoes are a crucial part of planning a travel outfit. Lara suggests ballet flats or lightweight flat shoes that can easily be paired with other clothing. Especially in the summer, in addition to flat shoes, slip-ons or sandals can also be worn. To avoid getting cold during the flight, bring socks and store them in your bag.

4. Heavy Makeup

Wearing heavy makeup can cause dry skin. Lara usually carries several skincare products in her handbag. "So that I can pamper myself a bit on the plane, including face masks and strong moisturizers; oh, and don't forget lip balm or oil," she said.

5. Underwire Bras

Like clothing, comfortable underwear is also important during flights. Underwire bras may hinder the journey a little at airport security checks.

6. Claw Hair clips

Claw hair clips are currently popular. However, if used during long flights, they can be uncomfortable. "Who needs something poking their scalp while sitting for a long time," said Lara.

She suggests choosing soft silk hair ties that won't make the hair tangle. If you prefer the entire hair loose or on your face, you can use a headband. But if you want a fresh and easy blow-dry look when getting off the plane, you can also use hair rollers to add instant volume during the flight.
